People & Products

This project started as a spontaneous collaboration between friends. Our shared experiences while teaching on the island of Puerto Rico sparked the idea to join forces and create a line of transferable underglaze patterns to share the incredible technology of applying bold color onto clay via paper.

We are excited to share these products with you hoping these print transfers will stir your creative juices and become great allies in developing unique and vibrant ceramic surfaces.

Sincerely,

Cristina and Jason

About Us

ISLA Transfers is a boutique business, artist owned and operated, and takes pride of our curated graphic content for clay. As working artists ourselves we strive to provide unique patterns and products that will assist in the creative juices of your ceramic work. Focusing primarily on hand printed underglaze transfers we are here to provide you with a wider variety of color, and so that you know that they are coming directly from our hands to your studio work.

We are constantly growing adding new patterns to both our newsprint and tissue transfers, limited editions and custom design orders, as well as more tutorial content to help you in the success of your transfers — whether we print them for you or teach you how. Follow us on instagram and e-mail us if you’d like to be in the know of new materials coming out, workshops, or just to say “hi!”

Interview w/ JTW Ceramics

Jason Bige Burnett was interviewed by John Walthier as a blog feature in December 2020. Find out a little bit more about how the business came to be, hear from a few of our users and designers, and get a little bit more about creating the product.

About Our Products

Newsprint Transfers

Screen-printed by hand using commercial grade underglazes. Newsprint Paper acts as a great vehicle for transferring the printed image off of the paper and onto LEATHER HARD clay. Because we screen-print our transfers colors are more widely available per pattern.

Tissue Transfers

Commercially printed and work well on WET, LEATHER HARD, BONE DRY, and BISQUE stages. Colors are limited, but you have greater possibilities for pre glaze decoration! Try combining these with corresponding and complimentary Newsprint Transfer patterns!

Basic Slip

Manufactured at a major clay retailer and then packaged by us. Our All Purpose White Slip works at various temperatures and works well with many clay bodies. However, there are always exceptions. Glazes, clay bodies, and firing temperatures may alter the final result of look and fit to the ceramic surface. ALWAYS TEST FIRST!
